Rome Squadron At Georgia Capitol for Civil Air Patrol Day 

(Rome, GA) - Cadets and senior members from the Rome Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) joined over 60 other CAP members from across the state at the Georgia State Capitol for Georgia's first Civil Air Patrol Day. House Resolution 1545 , sponsored by Representatives Loudermilk of the 14th District, Day of the 163rd, Lunsford of the 110th, Lewis of the 15th, Wix of the 33rd, and others declared March 16, 2006 as Civil Air Patrol Day at the Capitol.

The day's activities included exhibits highlighting the missions of the Civil Air Patrol, recognition of Civil Air Patrol members in the State House, a meeting and photo opportunity with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, and a recognition ceremony in the rotunda. Among the distinguished guests were CAP National Commander Major General Antonio Pineda, Georgia Wing Commander Col. Don Greene, and Georgia House Representatives Melvin Everson, Lester Jackson, Jeff Lewis, and Barry Loudermilk.  Representatives Everson, Jackson, Lewis, and Loudermilk are all members of the CAP Georgia Wing Legislative Squadron.

During the recognition ceremony Rep. Barry Loudermilk read the House resolution and presented copies to General Pineda and Col. Greene.� Col. Greene was also presented with a House Resolution commending him for his outstanding contributions to CAP and service to our nation.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk also presented Rome CAP C/2nd Lt. Matthew Abbott with the General Billy Mitchell Award during the recognition ceremony. The Mitchell Award is the second major milestone in the CAP Cadet Program. The recipients of the Mitchell Award are promoted to officer rank as a Cadet 2nd Lieutenant and become eligible for various scholarships and may be awarded advanced (E-3) rank upon enlistment in the U.S. Air Force.

Rome squadron cadets participating in "CAP Day at the Capitol" and serving as pages in the House of Representatives included: C/2Lt Matthew Abbott, C/SSgt. Michael Loudermilk, C/SSgt Christiana Loudermilk, C/A1C Grady Nall, C/CMSgt. Andrew Pearson, C/2nd Lt. Eugene Robbins, C/Amn Christopher Secrest, C/A1C Anthony Thacker, and C/CMSgt. Gabriel Thomas. Each received a certificate of appreciation for their service.

The missions of the Civil Air Patrol, the civilian auxiliary of the U. S. Air Force, include: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education and Cadet Programs.� The Georgia Wing has over 1600 members in 36 squadrons across the state.

In addition to cadets, Civil Air Patrol is made up of adult volunteers who are interested in helping our youth become good leaders, helping their community through Emergency Services, educating the community on aviation matters, and helping their country through involvement with homeland security issues and counter drug measures.
